How to tailor a resume to a job description
Tailoring means making your genuine experience easy to recognise for a specific role — not rewriting your history.
Read the job description twice. First, list the must-have requirements; second, list the nice-to-haves and the language the employer uses.
Map each requirement to evidence in your resume. Where you have strong evidence, move it higher and use the employer's terminology if it accurately describes what you did.
Where evidence is partial, add context you can stand behind: the tool, the scale, the outcome. Never add skills or results you do not have.
Rewrite your summary for the role in two or three sentences, and reorder skills so the most relevant appear first.
Keep a master resume and save each tailored version separately so you can track what you sent to whom.
